No Refill

I just found out that my favorite beverage, Dublin Dr Pepper has gone out of production. The Dr Pepper-Snapple Group filed suit against the 120 year old bottling plant in Dublin, Texas, for fear of brand dilution due to the rising popularity of Dublin Dr Pepper. With thanks to my good friend Keith, I had the opportunity to visit the bottling plant in 2009, where I purchased a couple of pallets of Dublin Dr Pepper. The bottle pictured here is the last bottle I posses. Into the vault it goes.

LeapFrog Point of Purchase Demos

I created these two videos for a Point of Purchase display, demonstrating LeapFrog's Tag and Tag Junior product lines. This unit was spotted in the educational toys aisle at a local Target.

You'll notice that the Tag video abruptly cuts off at the end. That's due to the hardware limitations of the battery powered display unit. The unit shuts itself off at about 70 seconds- I see that our video just barely made it to the end in time. It was difficult getting all the requested information in, but as you can see, we made it.

I really enjoyed working with the fine folks at Leapfrog!

Story Time with Super Martian Robot Girl (Yo Gabba Gabba!)

Because of Viacom's restrictions on YouTube, I haven't been able to successfully post this cartoon that I directed and animated for Yo Gabba Gabba back in 2009. I'm glad that someone was finally able to record a copy from their TV and get it posted! Story and design by Sarah Dyer and Evan Dorkin.

Fist launching is permitted, but there will not be any replacement fists for the duration of the fight. Belly missiles and missile packs are strictly prohibited.

I have fond memories of my Force Commander and Baron Karza Micronauts action figures. With their spring loaded missiles and fists, interchangeable magnetic limbs, and their horses, those were some great toys!

In 1978, MEGO released an interactive learning "robot" called 2-XL. He was basically a dolled up 8-Track player that played special tapes that had edutainment curriculum on them. He would give you some audio clips to listen to and then quiz you on what you had just learned. If you got the answer wrong, you were cleverly insulted. If you got the answer right, you were still insulted. My favorite cartridge was "Science Fiction II."

The design of 2-XL's soul patch was recycled from a piece from the Micronauts Battle Cruiser, another toy sold by MEGO that I had at the time. The crossover has always puzzled and tickled me.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture allowed Mego to launch a new line of Action Figures- this time in the Star Wars-compatible 3-3/4" scale. Finally, Luke Skywalker and Admiral Kirk could hang out.
